SUPPORT OPEN STUDIO CAMBODIA

Open Studio Cambodia is an artist collective based in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the gateway to the ancient temples of Angkor Wat. Open Studio Cambodia was founded in 2018, by Japanese American artist and long-time Cambodia resident, Lauren Iida. Open Studio Cambodia mentors, represents, and provides art supplies and studio space to a group of local Cambodian contemporary artists. The artists of Open Studio Cambodia use the power of art to challenge the stigma of physical disability, process trauma from war and human trafficking, and uplift themselves and their audiences with exquisitely crafted fine art and visual storytelling.

Help Koda's Family Repair Their House

My dear friend Koda Ith and her family are in urgent need of home repairs. Their village appears in Made In Cambodia, in the Khmer New Year interstitial sequence (25:48).

I've known Koda and her family for 8 years now, and they have always shown me an amazing warmth and generosity that has left an indelible mark on my heart. Today, we have the chance to extend our support during their time of dire need. Their humble one-room house, a shelter that has weathered the test of time, now requires urgent repairs to enhance their safety and well-being.

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a tremendous difference. On behalf of myself and this remarkable family, we extend our deepest gratitude for your generosity!

Open Studio Cambodia PARIS EXHIBITION!

Our talented emerging artists have had their work exhibited throughout Cambodia extensively. They have also had their artwork exhibited internationally but due to financial and administrative barriers, the artists have never had the opportunity to see their own artwork on the walls of an international gallery. In fact, the artists of Open Studio Cambodia have never had the opportunity to travel internationally until now. In 2022 while exhibiting her own artwork in Paris, Iida established a relationship with the Cambodian embassy there. They have invited Open Studio Cambodia artists, Morn Chear, Hom Rith, Van Chhovorn, and Ye Ranue to travel to Paris in March 2023 and exhibit their own artwork.

France is home to around half a million members of the Cambodian diaspora, most of them refugees. The exhibition will be organized in central Paris and will be open to the public during the third week of March 2023. We believe in the power of art not only to enhance the lives of the artists we work with, but as an important platform to share the stories that define all of us as humans. Please consider contributing to our travel expenses so that Open Studio Cambodia artists, Morn Chear, Hom Rith, Van Chhovorn, and Ye Ranue can fulfill their lifelong dreams of personally presenting their compelling artwork to an international audience and celebrating their successes. Travel funds raised will be used to purchase flights from Phnom Penh to Paris and for framing and shipping their artwork.
